If there’s one food I can never get tired of, it’s sandwiches. There are so many ways to make it your own – the opportunities are literally endless! So when I came across this photo I knew I had to try it. What a picture makes you drool, it’s a sign… (you can find the original inspiration here)
So I set off to work. As you can see, you don’t need much.
Here’s a list of “ingredients”:
a red onion
From the very get go, put the brie on an oven tray (make sure it’s got some foil underneath – this might get messy), and stick it in the oven for about 10 mins.
In a pan, fry the red onion (sliced into thin slices) with some brown sugar. Keep going until the sugar is entirely melted, has covered all of the onion, and the onions are getting soft.
Take out the cheese and let it sit just for a little bit.
Start putting your sandwich together. A slice of ciabatta on the bottom. Then prosciutto, then a few rucola leaves, a little bit of the caramelized onions on top of that. Then cut off a piece of brie (which will be totally gooey by now), and put it on the very top. Then a pinch of salt and pepper.
The tastes here are so decadent and flattering when put together. The result is a very classy-feeling snack for minimal effort.
The only downside? Prosciutto isn’t exactly the easiest meat to eat. It doesn’t divide itself nicely when you bite into the sandwich. Tasty none the less!
This is my final result. Total prep time – 15 min max. Total eating time – much less. These puppies disappear fast!
